Dancing with the Light and the Dark

Each morning, I sit with my tea and stare out at my backyard. This morning, the sun was shining, a rarity in the Midwest in the winter!

When I connect with nature, I gain some sort of insight. Today, I noticed the way the light and the shadows danced together upon my big, old oak tree.

What was fascinating was the way it changed as each moment passed by. First, I saw an angry old man’s face with the way the light met the shadows. Then it slowly disappeared into another form. The only thing that was constant was the way this danced changed.

As the light ever so slowly moved gently towards the West, I finally saw what appeared to be a figure in the shadow; a posture of someone standing with arms up in praise.

Where am I going with this, you ask?

  • Oh, the metaphor! Everything is a metaphor and here I was blessed with one that would remind me that:

  • There’s no need to try to rid ourselves of the shadow. If there is light, there will be a shadow. And instead of fighting it or trying to make it go away, we can dance with it.

  • As we dance with it, we get to embrace the impermanence of everything. It’s all temporary and the shadow is just as “enlightening” as the light!

I’m referred to as the Fearless Coach because I coach my clients and audiences to shift their fear into fearlessness. It’s powerful stuff. The tool I most often use is shadow work, shadow coaching; learning to love the parts of ourselves that we deem unacceptable, i.e. the shadow.

We spend energy on trying to hide the aspects of ourselves that we judge. Shadow coaching is the tool where, by shedding light onto these unacceptable parts of ourselves, the shadow changes. You learn how to embrace the shadows and as you do, they no longer have any power over you.

The light will always overcome the dark. Always. And you have a choice whether you want to bring light on these dark parts of you that have been suppressed in your unconscious. This is where the aha moments live – simply bringing light into the dark. Think about it! It increases your vision, just as if you entered a dark room with a flashlight.

Just as my old oak tree called my attention: It simply allowed the light to dance with the dark. It showed me the beauty of the shadow. There was no battle, only a refined dance of polarity.

What if you chose to understand your shadows? Trust me, you have them. We all do and we will always live with a shadow. But what if you learned to dance with your shadows and to shed light on them? Imagine if you no longer made any aspects of yourself wrong or unacceptable?

This is the work I love because it’s transformed my life beyond what I ever imagined. I have learned to love the parts of me that I tried to hide in the past; the lazy part, the stupid part, the unworthy part. There’s no longer anything to hide because now I love all these parts of me.

We dig into the shadow big time at my live 2-day event called Being Fearless. If you are ready to love all parts of yourself and turn your life into a dance, seriously consider attending. Here’s the link for more info.

Many of my attendees have stated that Being Fearless was the most powerful weekend of their life.

Don’t not attend because you are afraid! I’ve got your back!

Loving my shadow,

Debbie
